Field Care Tips & How Too Videos

You should get your animal skinned out and get the hide or cape in the freezer as soon as possible. This will prevent the hair from slipping (hair falling out) during the mounting process. When freezing a bear or large heavy furred animal, never wrap the head up inside the body. It can take days to thaw out which means the body could slip while the head and feet will be fine. Fold the hide in half skin to skin placing the paws together. Then fold in half again so it will lay flat in the freezer. Double bag the head and feet to prevent freezer burn and bag the body well. This way the feet and head are not rolled up inside and can thaw evenly with the rest of the hide.
